2008

NJ Association of Environmental Authorities Wave Award for Forward Thinking

(PVSC Lower Passaic Canoe & Kayak Trail)

PVSC has been working with the Lower Passaic & Saddle River Alliance (Alliance) and the National Park Service Rivers, Trails, and Conservation Assistance Program (RTCA) to identify and eliminate sources of pollution, improve public access and reconnect communities to the river and to change negative public perception of this valuable resource.

NJ Association of Environmental Authorities Wave Award for Community Outreach

(Marvin's Environmental Adventure)

PVSC's created the Pollution Prevention Educational Outreach Program to educate adults and youths about the environment and its current challenges.

2007

New Jersey DEP's Governor's Environmental Excellence Award - Safe and Healthy Communities Category

PVSC Education Outreach Department worked with students on the rehabilitation of the Kearny marsh.

2005

Water Environment Federation Public Education Award

WEF recognized PVSC for its public education efforts aimed at school-aged children, including the agency’s "Messy Marvin" program that utilizes a comprehensive approach of a PowerPoint presentation, printed materials and hands-on demonstrations designed to education children and foster dialogue between children and their parents.

New Jersey Clean Communities Council Special Recognition Award

PVSC was recognized for its assistance in the clean-up of the Kearny Marsh in conjunction with the New Jersey Meadowlands Commission - the clean-up entailed installation of birdhouse boxes, construction of a canoe trail and clearing of underbrush, garbage and debris that had accumulated on site.

PVSC was recognized for its Video Outreach Series, a video series produced in-house and meant to educate residents about the inner workings of the PVSC. This entertaining educational media is fashioned to include everything from the organization's early history, to daily operations and proactive safety measures for area waterways.

National Association of Clean Water Agencies Achievement Award

(Public Information & Education Video Category)

PVSC was honored for its production of the video Eye on the Passaic which is a special educational project that highlights the history and practices of the agency. Produced solely by members of the PVSC staff, the resulting video series is meant to educate residents about the inner workings of the PVSC.

The Messy Marvin Game Pak produced by PVSC's Public Education & Outreach Program was honored for spreading the message of clean water to students across the Passaic Valley.

New Jersey Water Environment Association's Exhibit Display Award - Category II


USEPA National Pretreatment Program Excellence Award

(First Place in the 100 and Greater Significant Industrial Users Category)

EPA recognized PVSC and its Industrial & Pollution Control Department for exemplary pretreatment programs that helped the facility realize dramatic environmental gains. Among these highly effective and cutting-edge programs are the Sewer Connection Rebate Program, the Pollution Prevention Program and the Educational Outreach Program. Acclaimed achievements included the Pretreatment Program's ability to greatly reduce incoming heavy metals loadings over the last decade, and PVSC's water quality sampling efforts in the Passaic and Hackensack Rivers, and Newark Bay.
