The Industrial and Pollution Control Department handles a variety of responsibilities in its six functional divisions:
- Industrial Operations reviews applications for and issues Sewer Use Permits, verifies the data used to calculate user charges and reviews monthly monitoring reports.

- Monitoring and Surveillance oversees Industrial Users for compliance with local, state and federal regulations by reviewing their pre-treatment plans, analyzing compliance reports, sampling industrial discharges and performing on-site inspections.

- The Laboratory is a NJDEP-certified Wastewater Pollution Testing Facility. It performs various analyses on industrial,
surface water, and in-plant samples, and meets all quality assurance requirements of said certification.

- Pollution Prevention institutes non-traditional, innovative methods to eliminate or reduce the discharge of pollutants from non-industrial, non-permitted users. Those users that develop photographic film as well as establishments that have the capability of discharging oil and grease from the preparation of food for commercial use are currently affected. - Connection Program consists of three sections; Connection Processing,
Community Flow Measurement and Satellite Monitoring Stations.
